Taking Care of Braces & Aligners
Proper care during orthodontic treatment is key to keeping your child’s smile healthy and progressing smoothly.
Brushing & Flossing with Braces
- Brush after every meal using a soft-bristled toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste
- Use orthodontic floss or floss threaders daily to clean between teeth and under wires
- Consider adding a water flosser or interdental brush for easier cleaning
A clean mouth supports healthy gums, strong enamel, and helps prevent white spots and decay around the brackets.
Cleaning Clear Aligners
- Rinse aligners with lukewarm water every time they’re removed
- Gently brush with a soft toothbrush and mild, unscented soap—not toothpaste, which can scratch the surface
- Keep aligners in their case when not in use to prevent loss or damage
Broken Bracket or Loose Wire?
Not every broken bracket or loose wire need to be replaced right way. However, if the broken bracket or the wire is causing pain, contact us as soon as possible for a repair appointment. In the meantime, use orthodontic wax to cover any sharp edges and prevent irritation to your cheeks and gums.
