Dental Emergency? Here's What to Do

Tooth Knocked Out (Permanent Tooth)
- Pick up the tooth by the crown (top), not the root
- Rinse gently with water—do not scrub
- Place tooth back in socket if possible
- If not, store in milk, saliva, or inside the cheek
- Get to the office or CHLA ER within 30–60 minutes
Do not try to reinsert a baby tooth.
Tooth Cracked or Broken
- Rinse mouth with warm water
- Apply gauze for bleeding
- Use a cold compress for swelling
- Take over-the-counter pain relief
- Call us or CHLA ER right away
Loose or Dislodged Tooth
- Leave it in place—don’t wiggle
- Use a cold compress
- Take pain medication if needed
- Call immediately for stabilization if needed
Lost Crown or Filling
- Store the crown safely
- Do NOT use super glue
- Call us to reattach or replace
